UPDATE: WORKS will be holding registration at 84-01 Jamaica Avenue (on the 2nd Floor above the bank at the corner of Forest Parkway) next Friday night, February 19th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration for a child costs $100 - which includes a uniform - and you are given $75 worth of raffle tickets to sell - you keep the money for the tickets that you sell. In other words, if you sell all your tickets, your child could play a season of little league baseball for as little as $25.
WORKS Little League is currently holding open registrations for the 2016 season, a local tradition for young boys and girls stretching back to the 1950s. Formerly known as Rich-Haven, WORKS stands for Woodhaven, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Kew Gardens and South Ozone Park.
If you have questions, you can contact someone from WORKS Little League by calling (718) 847-9633, (646) 522-3526 or by email at [email protected] You can also find out more information at www.eteamz.com/works or if you are on Facebook, you can click here.
Teams are available for boys and girls from four to 16 years old. There is also a girls’ softball division and the Challenger division for children with special needs. The registration fee is $100 ($75 for the Challenger division) and includes the uniform and hat.
To be eligible, your child must legally reside in the following zip codes: 11415, 11416 and 11417 (east of Cross Bay Boulevard), 11418, 11419, 11420, and 11421. A copy of the child’s birth certificate and a copy of proof of residency that shows the zip code are required.
Although it might not look like it outside your window, baseball season is right around the corner. The first pitch is thrown at the beginning of April, just over 50 days away.
Team Picture Day will be on a Saturday in March, where the players get to pose with their team, or take individual pictures that can be printed on collectible items, such as baseball cards.
And the big annual WORKS Little League Parade is in April. On that day, hundreds of players, coaches and parents will march down Jamaica Avenue and up Forest Parkway to the Forest Park Bandshell.
It is all part of the wonderful experience of playing in a team sport in your community that so many of us grew up with.
