Update: CAUGHT!
A resident of Woodhaven was brutally attacked and raped on her way to work Tuesday morning at 89th Street, just off Jamaica Avenue. The attack happened about 5:30 AM. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was attacked from behind, dragged into an alley next to Jin Nail Salon. She was beaten and raped. Her purse was emptied out and she was robbed.
The NYPD has released the following video of the suspect walking on Jamaica Avenue:
The suspect is described as being in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build and short, spiky black hair. He is said to be either Spanish or Guyanese. The incident further underscores the need for cameras along Jamaica Avenue, and in our community. There is a bill in the Assembly that proposes giving a $500 tax break to property owners who install and maintain surveillance cameras -- this sounds like a very positive step.
If you have any information that could lead to the apprehension of this animal -- please call the 102nd Precinct immediately -- 718-805-3200. Or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
