Well, we can probably file this one under "self-promotion" but the founders of ProjectWoodhaven do have some good news to pass along. Apart from building the Project Woodhaven website, we've had a few other projects underway, and one of those projects is being recognized at this year's Barebones Film Festival, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
"One Kiss, Again" - an original screenplay by Ramon Olivier and Edward Wendell has made the Top 10 of Feature Film Scripts. The winner will be announced at an awards dinner on Sunday, April 26th at the Roxy Theater. Here's a summary of "One Kiss, Again":
JD Fortez has a gift. One kiss, and a dead person comes back to life. But there is a cost: no one will remember JD. He will effectively be erased from history. Can he win back the woman he loves and save his daughter's life?
We've had some limited success in the past - both "Joanie's Doughnut" and "The Phoenix Game" were Semi-Finalists in the Gimme Credit Screenplay Competition, and an earlier version of "One Kiss, Again" entitled "Kissed" was acknowledged in the 9th Annual FilmMakers International Screenwriting Awards. This is, however, the closest we've gotten to a winning entry and Ramon Olivier will be attending the weekend-long festivities, which will also include a live reading of the scripts, as well as the opportunity to meet with Indie Producers in order to pitch the script. The Awards Dinner on the 26th also includes a red-carpet entry to the theater which Ramon will participate in.
Ramon sums up his feelings this way: "It's an exciting opportunity to see how we stack up against against scripts that have been produced, as well as against all of the other many talented writers that have been trying to get into the business. `One Kiss, Again' is based on a story that takes place in Woodhaven, and this validates our belief that stories taking place in Woodhaven would be fun and exciting for people to read and hear about."
Although the story takes place in various parts of New York City, the two main characters were born and raised in Woodhaven, living just off Jamaica Avenue. The long tree-lined streets, as well as the elevated train station, all contribute to the atmosphere in "One Kiss, Again" that is distinctly Woodhaven.
In addition to the scripts that we've written, we are also in the process of writing a novel set entirely in Woodhaven, taking place during the years 1969 through 1986. We estimate the this novel will be finished by May, 2010, and we will be writing a little more about that as it progresses. We'll file a report on the results of the Barebones Film Festival in a few weeks, and hopefully we'll have some good news.
