This is getting a little scary, folks. Yesterday morning around 11:30 AM I heard and saw the helicopter hovering over Woodhaven, around 88th Street, just South of Forest Park. I was working at the time and couldn't run out to see what was happening. Later, during the day, I got a few e-mails asking what was going on -- but I didn't have any answers. We drove past around 5 PM and there were a few people satanding around. So we asked a few people on the block what happened -- but no one knew what happened. Or if they did -- they were keeping quiet about it.
I've been searching the web -- looking for news -- but came up empty. However, the NY Post carried an account in their Saturday print edition. I won't reproduce it word for word -- but I will paraphrase:
3 guys invaded a home on 88th Street near 85th Road around 10:30 AM on Friday, May 22nd. They shot the home owner in the shoulder. A female resident came to his aid and was pistol whipped for doing so. These guys then took a safe, and then escaped in a van. The residents were taken to Jamaica Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
One or two home invasions in Woodhaven are isolated incidents.
This one officially turns this into a trend.
I'm sure this will be a hot topic at the next 102nd Precinct Community Board meeting -- and at the next meeting of the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association. Already, it was brought up at the last meeting of the 102 -- here's what Captain Charles McEvoy had to report:
These are tough economic times -- and many people don't trust banks. I've heard more than a few friends and acquaintances make offhanded remarks about withdrawing all of their money and keeping it close by. Under the mattress. In a safe. Here's a tip, folks -- if you're going to do that -- don't tell anyone. Keep it to yourself.
Look, I'm no sleuth -- but do you think these home invasions are targeted attacks? Do you think that criminals are driving around Woodhaven and see an old woman sweeping up her steps and decide that she might have big bucks inside?
Or do you think they might know something?
Be careful -- and be especially careful what you tell people.
[this is good]
Home invasions are tragic and this post is not to deter from home invasions but rather quickly discuss a different type of home invasion which I'm personally going through and makes me feel more helpless than being robbed.

It wasn't 3 guys it was 2. I know this because it was my daughter and her boyfriend and his sister. They broke into the side door of the house, rush into the basement where my daughter and her boyfriend were living. When her boyfriend tried to protect her, one of the guys shot him in the shoulder and arm. They tied them up and put pillow cases over their heads. While one guy trashed their apt the other guy held a gun to them. He went upstairs to his parents apt, where his sister was. He also tied up her arms, pistol whipped her and dragged her around the apt looking for money etc.. When he finally found what they were looking for they left saying they were going to kill them.
The police still haven't found the intruders and my daughters boyfriend is still going to rehab and having pain in his shoulder and arm. They since moved out of the apt and still have nightmares and are afraid to be alone in the house. If anyone has any information please contact the pct.. We have to stop these animals from invading homes
